Notes

This pob is for Penance Brand of Dissipation. You can not replace it with regular Penance Brand, the skills are completely different!

Penance Brand of Dissipation is an amazing bossing skill so this is what this build excels at. It is also very good at Sanctum.
There is a mapping version (check other tree and gear set) included that is optimized for better mapping to make it more bearable, but it is not an amazing mapper.
The pob is very basic and cheap and there are lots of ways to improve the build with more investment, i tried to keep it cheap and easy to acquire.
Also the pob is pretty tanky. Of course you can get way more dps if you sacrifice some defenses if that's what you want.

Check the different trees for bossing and mapping.

Some general Penance Brand of Dissipation notes:
PBoD is a ramping brand but we reach max stacks pretty quickly (2-3 seconds). Duration is still good for boss dps to avoid having to "re-ramp" so often.
Runebinder allows us to apply to brands to build energy twice as fast, but the combined max energy is still 20. This means we usually end up with 2 brands with 10 energy with similar total dps, but half the ramping time.
Swiftbrand is not great for bossing because of the 65% less duration, which means we have to re-apply brands way more frequently.
Swiftbrand is good for mapping if you do not run into very tanky things that survive 3 seconds. Swiftbrand + Duration passives can be a good middle ground for mapping to counter act the less duration penalty.
Faster Casting for mapping is what I recommend. It's a weaker Swiftbrand but does not have a downside to worry about.




BOSSING on this build:
We want to scale Duration for bossing.
Apply 2 brands & Assassin's Mark on the boss and we are done for 10-12 seconds. Do not cast too many new brands on the boss until the first 2 ran out, so we don't replace the active ones before they run out.
Assassin's Mark quality gives power charge on crit and Charms give Frenzy on hit to generate them while bossing.
SIlver and Diamond Flask (cast speed and crit suffixes) for extra dps while bossing.
Culling Strike charm is nice for bossing.

I use Zealotry instead of Grace for bossing, as Evasion is not very useful in most boss fights and Zealotry is huge damage (enables Sanctuary ascendancy).
Use Concentrated Effect for bossing as losing area is irrelevant for bossing.


MAPPING on this build:
Stack as much AoE as possible for mapping to make the clear less bad.
Explosions (Inpulsa's, Oriath's End etc.) are amazing to fix clear.
Overcharged for charge generation is nice for mapping (and useless while bossing)
Onslaught on Kill charm is important for clear speed (alternatively onslaught on kill boots)
We want access to a brand mastery for mapping for the "jumping" brands mastery. It improves clear significantly (it might be bugged tho).
Duration scaling is nearly useless while mapping.
Extra Brands (from Brand Equity anoint or from a second brand mastery) are very good to improve clear, but useless for most bossing content (apart from multi bosses like Feared.
Choose your anoint depending on what you prioritize. Brand Equity for better mapping, Ash & Frost and Storm is good for pure dps
Replace Concentrated Effect with something like Faster Casting or Increased Area of Effect to improve clear (dps on map bosses will be fine do not worry)


Notes about Defenses and mechanics:

Make sure all items are evasion bases so we can use +15 Suppression from Evasion mastery
If you can not cap suppression yet, run lucky suppression mastery.
Defenses come from auras and aura effect, make sure auras are high level.
Only run Righteous Fire once you have enough regen to sustain it and more - you don't want RF to eat all your recovery so u can't tank hits.
We can run exactly 3x 50% auras and Defiance Banner with just auras nodes on the tree. No reservation gear/jewels/charms required.
ES on gear is just as good as life because of Mind over Matter + Eldritch Battery. Need at least 700ish ES to activate the Blessing comfortably.
Do not run no regen maps. Do not turn on RF in less recovery and -max resist maps. Reduced Aura Effect maps are are doable (do not use RF) but very hard.


some crafting/gearing notes:
Use Magebane if needed for suppression. Lucky Suppression mastery if you can't hit 100% suppression yet.
Caster Reforge is guaranteed cast speed on rings.
+1 Physical and +1 Lightning Recipe for the sceptre are useful in ssf. (vendor white sceptre with gems with physical (or lightning) tag that add up to 40 quality. Aug and Regal into any useful mod and craft cast speed and it is a useable sceptre.
Singularity is a very fine starting sceptre.
Alira is an option if the gear lacks a bit of resists.



Ideas to improve build past this basic low budget stage
- add hatred crit watchers eye to possibly replace Increased Crit Strikes support with something better (Hypothermia?, Awakened added lightning? Energy leech?)
- add 50% conversion from gloves (and tree) to replace Physical to Lightning support with something better
- Inpulsa or Oriath End for clear
- Extra mana efficiency to fit in Zealotry and Grace permanently (Charms, Shield, Helmet, Body armor can all be places for reservation efficiency)
- Arcane Blessing Forbidden Jewels
- 8 link Helmet? Horror Essence, hypo, conc, +2 aoe
