The earliest you can switch to Thorns is Level 16. You MUST have a Crown of the Pale King before you can switch and at least one T3 Support gems (preferably two)
T5 Support Gems are often cheaper than T3 Support Gems after the first day or two of the league and they work just as well
I recommend switching before the Trials of the Sekhemas / end of Act 3 as they are both made significantly easier with Thorns
You can use ANY spear in campaign. I recommend buying any random spear from Renly in Act 1 to keep attribute requirements low

Thorns Damage Thresholds (Get a new shield and belt at these thresholds)
Level 15 - 11-23 Physical Thorns Damage
Level 30 - 24-53 Physical Thorns Damage
Level 38 - 40-92 Physical Thorns Damage
Level 50 - 64-145 Physical Thorns Damage
Level 59 - 101-220 Physical Thorns Damage

Choice rewards:
 - Valley of the Titans	- Personal preference, I take Increased Charm Charges Gained											 - Can be changed
 - Venom Vial				- Stun Threshold or Ailment Threshold. 																	                - Can't be changed
 - Tattoos					  - Doesn't matter much, but res/res/res is slightly better IMO                                            	     - Can't be changed
 - Abandoned Prison     - 30% Increased Life Recovery From Flasks 																		   - Can be changed
 - Seven Pillars              - 3% Increased Movement Speed - attributes, res and global defences are also good       	- Can be changed

If your damage is lacking in endgame and you don't have 100% Thorns Critical Hit Chance, get 100% Thorns Critical Hit Chance
You can get Thorns Critical Hit Chance from:
 - Corrupting Briarpatch for up to 30.5% Base Crit Chance
 - Up to three Stag Idols in Crown of the Pale King
 - A Heart of the Well with Thorns Crit Chance
 - A From Nothing for Resonance

Heart of the Well Phys Thorns from Body Armour > Thorns Crit - nothing else is worth extra money

Spear Crafting:

Not much has changed about the process, except that we don't need spirit reservation efficiency anymore. This means you don't need to use an Omen of the Liege and can just hope for attributes as your unveil
EITHER:
- Craft a blue base using transmutes/augments on a 2 Socket Normal Seaglass Spear (Will provide a trade link at some point after patch)
- 29.5% chance to hit greater transmute/augment (but lower rolls)
- 22.7% chance to hit with perfect transmute/augment (but better rolls)
OR:
- Buy a Blue 2 Socket Seaglass Spear with Attack Speed or Attributes or Reduced Attribute Requirements
THEN:
- Greater Essence of Haste OR Infinite for attack speed or attributes depending on what you got on your base
- Omen of Dextral Necromancy with a Preserved Jawbone To guarantee a Suffix
- Hopefully you get Attack Speed or Attributes or Reduced Attribute Requirements, it's okay if you miss
- Exalt until Prefixes are full
- Perfect Essence of Abrasion
- Omen of corruption
- Vaal, 33% chance for 3 sockets COULD BRICK but seeing as we have two useless prefixes the risk is lower than usual

DO NOT LEVEL RAPID ASSAULT OR RAKE. LEAVE THEM AT LEVEL FIVE AND THREE, ALL THAT HIGHER LEVELS DO IS RAISE THE COST
