Could get Megalomaniac with Vigilance/Defensive Stance/Hunker Down/Molten Being and then instill Catalysis instead, very easy to find a megalo that has ONE of those 5. Could potentially get a Megalomaniac with Marathon Runner for more speed AND one of those other 5 passives, OR a Megalo with 2 of the 5 passives and then instill Marathon Runner.
Either Molten Being or Hunker Down can be gotten with a From Nothing jewel, which adds flexibility. Instead of Marathon Runner (best option) could get other Movement Speed passives like Spaghettification/Kite Runner/Spiral Into Depression/Escape Velocity/Acceleration/Adrenaline Rush/Light on Your Feet/Momentum/Tactical Retreat/Among the Hordes/Gem Enthusiast
leaving many potential upgrade options.
Low budget build looks like it would be VERY good for league start, really cheap and easy to get online. Could just have 2 ascendancy points for Apocalypse (haven't fully ascended early league) and still be very tanky. One reason it's super easy to get online is
that the damage wand can have spell skills of ANY element. Can be levels for All Spells, Fire Spells, Lightning Spells, Cold Spells. Also could have 3 Gain prefixes instead of 2 Gains+elemenetal, so it's very flexible. DOES need Trampletoe to switch to this build.
Having juiced Temp Chains in Blasphemy lets me Sprint much of the time while Apocalypse rains down
I also tested for early game, when I have lower Spirit and damage, it looks like I can have Archmage on JUST my Apocalypse weapon set and it WILL apply the Archmage damage to Apocalypse even when I'm on my main weapon set.
Also tested and Archmage is NOT causing a mana cost for the triggered spells from Apocalypse, even though it looks to be buffing them.
Can switch to this build as soon as I get Trampletoe, otherwise probably need to use Essence Drain+Contagion build.
Can use Mind Over Matter when have bad gear/low levels.
Even tankier than you might think since it can just constantly dodge roll around during fights and still do damage with Apocalypse.
This build successfully beat T15 boss with bad gear.
Thanks to Double Corrupt, it isn't even that difficult to get +1 To All Skills amulet, since Double Corrupt has a 50% chance of adding an Enchant, which is higher than normal corrupting.
Clearing strat: Open map, cast Entangle as I run past first couple packs. It's ok to not kill every pack. That should get me enough Glory to use Apocalypse, then I just start Sprinting. When Apocalypse ends, cast Entangle on a couple packs again and repeat. This build works even better the more pack size and more number of monster packs there are, to
more effectively chain with Trampletoe. Can use Headhunter if desired, Midnight Braid is only needed for tanking Uber Arbiter oneshots, otherwise unnecessary.
Bossing strat: Entangle to get Glory (does ele dmg since I have dmg Gained from passive and Ascendancy points). Then cast Apocalypse. Vs very hard bosses, turn off Blasphemy and self-cast Enfeeble+Ele Weakness. Can just keep dodge rolling when Apocalypse is up.
