3.22
SKILL-TREE:
CI is your go-to choice if you league start the build, while you save up chaos to get a shavs armor.

MAP MODS TO AVOID OR BE CAREFUL WITH:
40-60% less recovery of energy shield and life.
Cannot regenerate energy shield or life. (mainly due to mana.. you can run this if you equip a mana flask..)
Ele. Reflect (unless you equip a lvl 1 tempest shield & lvl 1 frostblink, then you will be fine doing reflect)
% reduced block chance (again, you can run this if you play a little careful and don't jump right into the middle of packs)

SURVIVING UNTIL YOU BECOME GODMODE:
Vaal Discipline... USE IT! Put it on a GOOD key! It's so extremely strong for survival, it makes you immortal for 3 seconds practically.
Get used to pressing it ANYtime you feel the slightest worry becausae it re-charges EXTREMELY fast, so USE it non-sparringly.
(it can also tank stuff like sitting in darkness for 3 extra seconds in delve to find your way out...)
In the early and mid-game I use my vaal discipline a LOT, but once I have accomplished end-game type gear and got my block, my flask(rumi or replica rumi),
along with good gear, then basically I end up only rarely pressing vaal discipline. But until you reach THAT point, your vaal disc is your
health flask in this build and you should spam it frequently whenever you feel pressured, I can't state this enough.

MANA:
While leveling and early mapping, you will need to use a mana flask. Preferably one with the enduring prefix.
Later on as you see on my character, we fix it by having -mana cost on our rings (bench craft, unlocked by unveiling Gravicius rings or amulet)
Two big QOL additions to our mana sustain is to use Inspiration Support and Anomalous Trap&Mine Dmg Support. (They are usually cheap)
We also have access to some mana sustain nodes to make life easier; (Arcane will is reachable with the thread)
Also coldhearted calculation and deep thoughts are mana related nodes.
Clarity gem at lvl 5-8 works great too and you can reserve it with your life when you do the arrogance setup.

ATTRIBUTES:
There are a multitude of ways to fix any attribute requirements, it totally depends on the gear
that each individual player ends up with.
Usually the easiest place for STR/DEX are belts, boots and rings.
Cluster Jewels are also a great place to gain some added stats.
Aisling is also good, she can deliver 70 stats in ONE mod. (35/35 str/dex)
Temporary sources for stats are the skill-tree +30 nodes and/or bench crafting any open suffixes you have.

ES-REGEN:
If you want more passive ES regen, e.g. vs bosses where blocking is not always "healthy", there are a few ways:
1) Enchant your belt with +150(180) es regen.
2) Use Rot-Resistant in your megalomaniac.
3) Forbidden jewels, stealing pyromiac from the sabo tree, we have the space for them.
4) Adding a stone golem instead of wave of conviction, since you get exposure from lvl 5 pen (or from glove eldritch implicit)
5) 2% ES regen mastery.

GEMS:
In the order you should add them:
Lightning Trap, Swift Assembly, Trap & Mine Dmg, Lightning Penetration/Charged Traps/Inspiration Support (these 3, add them as you can/please,
if you need more mana free'd up, inspiration, if you want more throw speed charged traps etc)
Anomalous Trap & Mine Dmg is cheap and helps with mana costs of traps.
I have divergent riposte in my build for onslaught% on block, but it doesn't work unless your main hand is a weapon that can proc riposte, such as a sceptre.
However I left it on so you know it's an option when crafting/buying weapons. (onslaught is not enabled in the pob)

OPTIONAL GEMS:
Frost Shield - a solid defense when you're standing still throwing traps (phantasmal quality is also an option, but default is fine)
Stone Golem - IMO it does too easily, but if you aren't bothered re-casting, it'll provide extra es-regen.
Divergent Riposte (only divergent has any interest, it has a small chance to proc onslaught, assuming you're using a sceptre or dagger or similar that can proc riposte)
Vitality lvl 1 (mainly for the extra aura, since we get 8% inc dmg per aura)
Precision lvl 1-8 (depending how much room you have in your mana budget)

FLASKS:
Rumi's concoction is relatively cheap at league starts and provides a good amount of block that we need. (quality it for extended duration)
Replica Rumi's is also an option and usually cheap as well. (You need to 28% qual it through Hillock in syndicate research to get a 2.3s duration)
Wise oak provides extra resists and more importantly 8% penetration. (Make sure your uncapped lightning resist is the highest of your resists)
Quicksilver vs Quartz is a personal choice, I usually opt for quicksilver. (More movespeed vs Pushing through packs more easily while laying traps)
Bottled Faith is a late-game flask, usually anywhere from 2-5d depending on the popularity of that item in the current league.

GEARING:
I have tons of videos on my youtube about crafting and gearing and even if they are from previous leagues, 99% of the information remains valid.
Self-crafting our gear is EXTREMELY easy because we can use dense fossils for a majority of it and they are cheap (check my craft videos on my YT).
(For resonators I suggest delving and using all azurite to buy 1 slot resos from niko)

BODY-ARMOR:
You do not need a +4 body armor! I'm wearing it because I'm min/max'ing. This build performs great on a regular 6L shavs.
Alternatively, you can buy a very cheap +2 traps corrupted shavs and link it with tainted fusings, I would recommend this for a cheap DPS gain.
You could also go for a +2 with 50% damage increase, or a +3 (+2 traps +1 all gems), this ALL depends on your budget.
(Remember to always bench craft 4link before you try tainted fusing and keep re-4-linking it, until your tainted fuses hits 2 in a row, i.e. to go from 4link to 6link)
For coloring, we have 3 green, 1 red, which means 4-off colors so by far the easiest way to color our shavs is with tainted cromatics.
If you don't have any or can't buy them, I suggest spamming "at least 1 green socket" via crafting bench.

JEWELS:
Double multiplier jewels cost typically 1-5c and provide a ton of damage once you start picking up jewel sockets.
Remember we can use a ton of different multiplier stats: i.e. spell multiplier, lightning multiplier, elemental multiplier, global multiplier etc.

MEGALOMANIAC JEWEL:
This is a very cuztomiseable slot. Normally I just use a rare jewel with enduring composure (it's a small +30% armor cluster jewel that can roll enduring compoure)
Later on when theres a market for it, I replace it with a megalomaniac that has useful stats.
Some of the really good ones are (Rot-Resistant), (Enduring Composure) and (Storm Drinker), but there are really many useful options.

MASTERIES:
REMEMBER to change masteries later on when you go from life build to full es! e.g. 30 life per trap trigger is useless once you've gone CI or LowLife.

ASCENDANCIES:
Pick whichever you prefer first. My own favorite first pick is "One Step Ahead" as it provides throw speed, movement speed and makes you freeze/chill immune.

My most recent character if you want to look at my setup/links, is found here: https://www.pathofexile.com/account/view-profile/oestergreen/characters
Name of the character is LightningTrapForever

Remember!: Cluster setup is your LAST points towards lvl 100 and Jewel sockets are your 2nd to last points, so around lvl 86+.

Note:
Note: If you lack trap throw-speed, remember it's craftable on multiple different items. (Throw speed exist on jewels, shaper gloves, eldritch gloves, essence of zeal crafted belts and bench craft belts)
Note: Many skillpoints are adjustable based on your own currency/budget and what items you happen to drop/obtain.
Note: I league-start my build always and I only go for jewel sockets when im in the 86+ and can afford decent jewels. Before that, you're better off investing those points into early trap damage nodes and/or survival.

Around lvl 65-68 is usually a good spot for switching to full ES with CI (or low life if you can afford a shavs). Getting CHEAP 1alch/1chaos energy shield pieces is easy as they often are far far cheaper than equivalent life gear.
